GROUND & LAUNCH
SDA's Ground & Launch Layer enables ground systems and launch capabilities to support a responsive and resilient space architecture.
The SDA Ground & Launch Layer provides an integrated, resilient ground infrastructure necessary to enable the space-based capabilities of the other layers to transmit, receive, process, exploit and disseminate data. This infrastructure must:
- Manage the constellation.
- Host and execute command and control (C2) capabilities.
- Host mission processing and battle management command, control, and communications (BMC3) applications.
- Task and manage ground-based communication gateways.
- Connect across secure long-haul communications networks.
- Implement cyber security systems.
- Provide computing, networking, and storage capabilities.
Leveraging advanced technologies, such as optical ground terminals and dual-band antennas, and aligning with the U.S. Space Force's presentation of forces to U.S. Space Command, are fundamental to SDA's approach.
In addition, the Ground & Launch Layer facilitates launch acquisition, space vehicle integration, and satellite operations infrastructure for all other SDA Layers.
